By Playfuls Team Alexander Zverev surprised Roger Federer to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters on Friday, beating 6-3 6-7 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

Zverev has boosted his chances of qualifying for next month's men's tennis tournament in London.

Zverev reached the gold medal in the Masters Championship for the first time in 12 months, his last ascent to the same role in the last edition of Shanghai, but then lost to Serbian star Novak Djokovic.

Zverev collected 180 points to take his tally to 2,615 points, surpassing Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, and ranked seventh in the list of contenders to qualify for the final tournament.

Zverev, 22, overtook Federer four times against three-time Swiss Maestro, 38.

Zverev will meet in the semifinals of the quarter-final between Italian Matteo Brettini and Austrian Dominic Thim, who has already qualified for the final.

Earlier in the day, Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, to resolve his qualification to the final championship of the season.

Tsitsipas will face Russian third seed Daniel Medvedev, who qualified for Italy's Fabio Funini 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in an 86-minute opening match of the quarter-finals.

The 21-year-old Tsitsipas took the world two hours and two minutes to beat the 16-year-old Grand Slam champion Djokovic, denying him a chance to win the fifth title of his career and the 34th title. His record of participation in the championships of professors.
