HTS reported that its fighters shot down a Sukhoi 22 warplane that took off from a base in Homs province.

Counter attack
According to Syrian media activists, the opposition factions launched a counterattack against the regime in Idlib countryside to regain what it lost in the past few days, especially in the Tel Aas axis.

Video footage released today by the National Liberation Front (part of the armed opposition) showed that its fighters repelled the advance of regime forces near Khan Sheikhoun, destroying a tank and vehicle carrying soldiers and a rocket launcher.

Opposition sources said they fought overnight clashes with regime forces, Lebanese Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed militias on the Kafr Ayn and Tal Aas axis in Idlib countryside.

According to opposition media sites, the losses of regime forces and allied militias exceeded 200 wounded and about 20 vehicles and armored vehicles in the clashes on the Skik axis in Idlib countryside.

Khan Sheikhoun
On the other hand, Reuters reported that the regime forces took control today of new territory of the opposition forces near Khan Sheikhoun, and told the opposition leader of the same agency that the city - which has been controlled by the opposition since 2014 - "in great danger" .

According to the Observatory and the Syrian News Agency, the regime forces were able to take control of the villages of Kfar'in, Khirbet Murshed, Muntar and Tel 'Aas west of Khan Sheikhoun, the largest city in the southern countryside of Idlib, a gateway to the rest of Idlib province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the regime forces are now four kilometers from Khan Sheikhoun.

The regime's advance toward Khan Sheikhoun threatens to encircle the last remaining opposition areas in the northern countryside of Hama, including the towns of Murk, Kafrzita and Latamna.

Dead and displaced
Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that five civilians were killed in raids targeting residential neighborhoods in Khan Sheikhoun.

Around 40,000 people have been displaced in the past 24 hours after regime forces advanced into northern Hama and southern Idlib, the organization said.

Most of those displaced remain on the main roads without shelter and at high temperatures, it said. The organization explained that more than ninety thousand people were displaced from the southern countryside of Idlib and northern Hama between 11 and 14 this month.
