My god, White Island volcano in New Zealand erupted today for first time since 2001. My family and I had gotten off it 20 minutes before, were waiting at our boat about to leave when we saw it. “My family and I literally left the island 20 minutes ago, were on a boat and were waiting for departure when they saw this,” the message said.

Earlier it became known that about a hundred people were on or near the island at the time of the eruption.
