In Tunisia, the Islamist-inspired Ennahda party topped the legislative elections on Sunday, with 52 seats out of 217, according to preliminary official results released on Wednesday (October 9th). Ennahda is ahead of "Heart of Tunisia", the party of presidential candidate Nabil Karoui, which will count 38 deputies.

These figures are in line with the exit polls poll published Sunday in the aftermath of the polls and which foreshadowed a fragmented Parliament.

Tunisian justice also ordered the release of Nabil Karoui during the day, who has been imprisoned since 23 August for suspected tax evasion and money laundering.

Several parties were removed from the seats, including one, Errahma, because of "radio propaganda during the election campaign," the election authority said.
