Apparently it is a legitimate buyer looking for a product in Wallapop . However, the only thing that interests these criminals is your personal data and access your bank accounts. This is your modus operandi .

National Cyber Security Institute (INCIBE) has issued an alert of medium importance on the latest scam cybercriminals groups are developing in Wallapop, the popular site for buying and selling second - hand product in particular.

The modus operandi of the scam by Wallapop

The criminals pose as a buyer interested in acquiring some of the products for sale and write a message. In that message, they encourage to continue the conversations to be done with the product through email .

According to the Incibe alert, criminals send the following text (without punctuation) that we reproduce below.

" Hello, is this item still for sale? If yes, please confirm calling my name personal email (indicate an address) thank you," says the generic message literally.

Once the seller contacts the email, Incibe warns that there may be different types of responses that use snoops to obtain personal information about the seller .

What the offender seeks with this communication is to obtain data such as his name, address and telephone number . To prevent the seller from suspecting, the scammers claim that they request this information to send to a courier company to pick up the product that is for sale.

Once we have sent the data, the scammer, masked as a buyer , will ask to publish a notification that we must have received in our email from the transport company.

An email in which the band of scammers supplant the identity of DHL, the international logistics and transportation company. The new mail in which they impersonate DHL, in addition to personal data, intends to collect the bank details and even tries to trick the seller into providing his credit card code so that the shipment can be made.
