The EU called on Russia for the unconditional release of Ukrainian sailors

According to him, the European Union has repeatedly expressed concern about the fate of Ukrainian citizens detained in Russia

“We continue to call for the immediate and unconditional release of the captured Ukrainian soldiers and their ships in accordance with the order of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea,” Interfax-Ukraine quotes him.

Earlier, the court in Moscow extended for three months the arrest of Ukrainian sailors.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a strong protest in connection with the decision of the Moscow Lefortovo Court to extend the arrest to all 24 Ukrainian sailors who were detained in November 2018.

On November 25, 2018, three ships of the Ukrainian Navy illegally crossed the Russian border, after which they were detained.

Leading researcher at the Institute of Europe, RAS, Sergei Fedorov, in an interview with NSN, commented on the joint appeal of French leader Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Russia to release the detained Ukrainian sailors.
