The Lotto Soudal rider, Bjorg Lambrecht, has died in today's stage of the Tour de Poland after falling off his bike and hitting his head on the top of a sewer. Despite attempts by the medical services to resuscitate him, his death has been confirmed shortly after being transferred to the hospital by ambulance (his condition prevented the use of the helicopter) and while he was undergoing surgery.

"The greatest tragedy that could happen for Bjorg's family, friends and companions has occurred ... Rest in peace Bjorg," Lambrecht's team published on his Twitter account minutes after the Polish press had reported the fatal accident.

The precocious Belgian climber, dies with only 22 years and having achieved this year a fourth place in the Walloon Arrow and a sixth in the Amstel Gold Race. Also this season he managed to be the best in the classification of young people in the Critérium du Dauphiné and planned to participate in the next edition of the Tour of Spain.
