Early in the morning of September 13, 1999, an explosion occurred in the basement of one of the residential buildings on Kashirskoye Shosse. The eight-story brick building was completely destroyed. Almost all the tenants in it were killed - 124 people, another seven miraculously survived, but were injured of varying severity. Explosives with a total capacity of 300 kg in TNT were disguised as bags of sugar. The cynicism of the actions of the militants was added by the fact that the attack occurred on the day of a nationwide mourning for those killed in the bombings in Buinaksk and on Guryanov Street in Moscow. Khattab and Abu Umar were behind the terrorist attack, liquidated by the security services in the early 2000s.
