When the word king is mentioned, the first image that comes to mind is a man with a crown on his head, bearded on his face, dignity and prestige, and perhaps wisdom or vanity, dressed in luxurious clothes, holding a scepter, sitting on the throne and around him. For any king of European literary heritage or as seen in serials and historical films.

But Netflix's original King gets rid of this stereotype, and we see a young man wearing a shirt and pants, inheriting his father's throne, Henry V, 15th century King of England, according to a play or set of plays by William. Shakespeare (Henry IV Parts I, II and Henry V) quoted this film.

In the 15th century, the average age of human beings in England was 35 years, the age at which Henry V died. Therefore, a young man or girl in their twenties ascended the throne to rule the old continent - that is, before their marriage or even without plans to preserve the gains of their kingdoms and empires - was commonplace. It back then.

Henry, Prince of Wales, is called Hal by his close friends, the eldest son of Henry IV (Ben Mendelssohn) of England, an outcast and disagreeing with his father, abandoning the Royal Palace, spending his life in bars and accompanied by night girls. The prince is not interested in his father's internal wars, nor does he succeed him, and he has one friend, John Fullstaff (Joel Edgerton).

King Henry IV summons his outcast son Hal, and tells him that his younger brother Thomas will inherit the throne instead. Thomas goes on a military mission to quell the Hobstor rebellion, but Hull opposes the army's advance, offering an individual duel against Hobstor if Hull wins and the rebellion ends. Hal tells Thomas that the wisdom of the combat initiative is to preserve the spirit of his brother, and to avoid death due to the foolishness of their father's political.

Hull defeats Hobstor, but Thomas accuses his brother of stealing the glory of that battle, and insists on advancing toward the rebel position, and dies in Wales. King Henry IV becomes ill and dies, and logically he inherits the throne, and King Henry V becomes a pacifist with a peaceful outlook and has friendly relations with neighbors.

Rise of a Star

Experienced and experienced viewers know that this will not last long, otherwise why would a rising star like Timothy Shalameh star in a movie called "The King"? Slamieh starred at the beginning of this decade, and appears to be the most prominent in the generation of stars of the century, especially when looking at his past roles, most of which were independent films competed for the highest prizes.

The role of the king for Shalameh is qualitative and new, and tests his representational abilities outside the framework of the roles of youth, he played here, the role of leadership in the first place, and the need for charisma and authority and prestige on the screen. Shalameh brings in half of the role requirements, while Australian filmmaker David Michaud is the other half.

We have a beautiful role for a rising king who is quite decent for a rising actor, as if the film documents the rise of Shalameh's stardom, which at the same time performs his feelings and body, perhaps for the first time in his career. Shalameh performs with his body, his battles and even his cold eye gaze. What you look at and what you think becomes the story of the film.

Raised in the streets

In addition, Mishawd (director of the Australian crime film Animal Kingdom 2010) overturns the well-known fact in European literature that palaces make kings, that is, princes grow up in palaces and reasonably rule. Instead we see Prince Henry raised in the streets, and the political circumstances took him to inherit his father's throne.

In other words, the king of the story did not live in the bubble of vanity, luxury and pride, but came from the street, where he was in contact with the people, and this is the source of personal strength, and the reason for sympathy for it. Hull's battle against Hobstor serves as a prelude to the rising king, reflecting that he was raised on the street by the professional warrior Fullstaff.

The scene of the individual fencing goes from battle of the Knights to street fighting with punches, wrestling in the mud, and the whole picture bears the story of a king who came from the street. Even as the film progresses, and King Henry V marches and invades the territory of the French kingdom, his clothes are very ordinary, do not wear a crown, and never differ from his army. Unlike the other party, the French Crown Prince Dauphin (Robert Pattinson), son of King Charles VI of France, who moves only with his tent and his horses and arrogance preceded by tens of miles.

The text was written by Michaud and Edgerton, and they removed the Shakespearean verbal contract from it to be suitable for the new generation in all its categories.This was a decision that did not impress the lovers of the playwright and poet Shakespeare, and described it as drinking coffee without caffeine;

There are clear echoes of the series "Game of Thrones" in the "King", and it can not be said that «Netflix» made the film without exploiting the uproar and mania brought about by the series. The fierce battle of Henry V against Dauphin's army is so close that it matches the battle of the illegitimate two-armed army in the ninth episode of the sixth season of that series, the difference being that the film's battle is smaller and shorter.

Pattinson almost steals the limelight

Robert Pattinson performed beautifully, despite his limited appearance, and almost stole the limelight from Shalameh, and Lille Rose Depp, daughter of actor John Depp, gave her best performance in this film as Dauphin's sister Catherine.

It can never be said that Netflix made the movie "King" without exploiting the uproar caused by the series "Clash of Thrones."

Mitchoud turns the truth known in European literature, which says that palaces make kings .. To see the prince who was raised in the streets, and transferred by circumstances to inherit the throne of his father.
