A 75-year-old man was killed in a Russian air force night raid on the Syrian province of Idleb, the first civilian victim of air strikes since the announcement on August 31 of a ceasefire in the region, said Wednesday the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights.
This province and adjacent areas were subject to a fragile ceasefire announced by Moscow after four months of bombing by the regime and its Russian ally. These strikes killed according to the OSDH more than 960 civilians since April.
Dominated by jihadist groups, this region of northwestern Syria is beyond the control of Damascus. The first air strikes since the announcement of the ceasefire were conducted by Russian planes Tuesday, especially at night.

Ahmad Issa al-Moussa (75) could not flee the bombing raids in the village of Al-Daher, west of the capital of Idleb. " We slept when a first missile landed around midnight at 50 meters " from the building. " Everyone fled (...) except my father, " said Abu Ans, the son of the victim. " My father is diabetic, he could not walk, a second projectile landed about two meters away from him," he added.
On the ground, the unilateral truce announced by Moscow was regularly violated by artillery fire.
Triggered in 2011 with the suppression of pro-democracy protests, the war in Syria has claimed more than 370,000 lives.
This offensive led by the Syrian regime and its Russian and Iranian allies have left thousands of displaced people living in a catastrophic situation.
