Have you ever been told that you are a workaholic? Then you are not alone.

Sofia Modigh is one of those who heard it, a word that she at first thought sounded positive.

- At first I thought it sounded cool, says Sofia Modigh.

But one day it stopped.

- I worked hard, had a good job, trained and met the man in my life. But then it narrows.

Got sick for one year

One day she cycled on her bike, something that would affect her life for a long time to come.

- Cycling over should not give any bigger suites than a little scrubbing. But it came to be the beginning of my illness.

Today Sofia Modigh is feeling better, but she is not completely recovered. To get help with her addiction, she turned to anonymous workaholics in Stockholm, where she received advice and support.

Similar to other addictive diseases

Researchers describe work-drug addiction as a condition similar to other addictive illnesses because the reward system is triggered. Today, there are no statistics on how many people suffer from work-related addiction.

Fred Nyberg is professor of biological dependency research at Uppsala University. He thinks that workaholism is about spending more time on their work than is actually healthy.

- It will be at the expense of social activities and other health aspects, such as exercise. It is a kind of work dependence that causes you and your surroundings to do harm, says Fred Nyberg.
