It started with a UF company in high school where they visited schools around Linköping to talk about the consequences of online bullying.
Now Sofia Helbro and Jennifer Svernlöv have taken the student and are determined to continue their fight against night hatred through their newly started company Netsafe.
- It's a big social problem that is talked about a little bit. We want to break the taboo and urge those affected to report and dare to tell.
They believe that the possibility of anonymity in social media is one of the reasons why people dare to write things they would never dare say to anyone eye to eye. And even though they understand that it would be difficult to get online giants to ban anonymous accounts, they still think it would be a good idea.
"It would be the best solution to get rid of the net hate," says Sofia Helbro.
- On some dating sites, it has introduced licensing requirements, typically via Bank ID, which I think is great, continues Jennifer Sverlöv.
Today, there is an age limit for most social media, usually 13 years. But you can get accounts even though the user is not of age. Many times they get help from the parents.
- There is another reason why there should be a requirement for identification, says Jennifer Svernlöv.
- I don't think parents should let their children get accounts before they have their age in, the age limit is there for a reason, says Sofia Helbro.
Furthermore, the girls want to point out that there is a lot of positive on the net and a lot of knowledge to get. But one must be aware that there is also a dark side.
- Remember that being source-critical and you come across something that doesn't feel good, don't hesitate to talk to an adult, says Jennifer Svernlöv.
