Warning of fire risk lies as a cover over large parts of Sweden. Now, however, SMHI has issued a Class 1 warning for large amounts of rainfall in south-eastern Norrland.

- In this area it is raining and raining more coherently. It can probably be thunderstorms and slightly more powerful showers, says SVT's meteorologist Åsa Rasmussen.

The heavy rain is expected mainly during Wednesday evening. Along the coast, it seems to rain a lot even during the night through Thursday.

Thunderstorms on the West Coast

In the westernmost parts of Götaland, there is a risk of heavy rainfall during Wednesday night, according to SMHI. There can also be thunderstorms, says Åsa Rasmussen.

- Just when we have rain and thunderstorms, then it can become very heavy and torrential rain in a very short time and then it pulls away. The neighbor can't get anything at all, she says.

In these areas it can get up to 50 millimeters of rain, but it is difficult to say exactly where.

- It is always very difficult with such powerful thunderstorms and rain showers to say how much it will be because they can also come to a place where there is no rain gauge, says Åsa Rasmussen.

The rain remains

The unstable weather seems to stop the week due to several different low pressures. The rain causes the temperatures to drop slightly and we can expect between 15 and 23 degrees in general, says Åsa Rasmussen. Farther in the north and in the Lapland mountains, it can get a little colder during the nights.

- It will vary a bit. It looks like it will be a mid-day with a little less rain on Friday and then it pulls in again for the weekend, she says and continues:

- It seems to rain mostly in southern and central Sweden and a little less farther north.

Small impact on groundwater levels

Åsa Rasmussen says that there is still a lot of rain in the ground to cope with the risk of land and forest fires.

- On the other hand, the rain that comes now does not affect the groundwater levels as the rain does not come so deep this year. You could say that the rain gets stuck in what is growing. It certainly contributes a little, but not much, she says.
