The China Seismological Network determined that at 20:23 on April 1, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred in Shiqu County, Sichuan (33.04 degrees north latitude, 98.92 degrees east longitude) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake did not cause damage to the main grid equipment and facilities of the Ganzi Power Grid, and the power grid operated normally.

After the earthquake, the secretary of the Shiqu County Party Committee, Yuan Mingguang, rushed to the scene to command immediately, and organized the emergency management, civil affairs bureau, county people's military department, fire protection, health and other related departments to investigate, rescue, and nuclear disaster.
