  • Seven residents of a retirement home in Haute-Savoie died from coronavirus.
  • The first case was reported on March 9.
  • The director of the establishment warns of the need to “confine more”.

Seven residents of a nursing home in Sillingy (Haute-Savoie) died of Covid-19, said on Tuesday its director who launched an alarm cry: "We must do everything to prevent the virus from entering our establishments, further contain more ".

“I send a message to all Ehpad: it is not at all like a flu, we have to confine our residents even more so as not to let this extremely contagious virus spread. Otherwise, we run the risk of disaster, ”says Eric Lacoudre, director of the accommodation establishment for dependent elderly Le Bosquet de la Mandallaz.

The first case detected on March 9

The nursing home is located in the immediate vicinity of the town of La-Balme-de-Sillingy, one of the first "clusters" (concentration of patients) discovered in France since the onset of the disease.

The first case of coronavirus in this Ehpad was detected on March 9, said the director, confirming information from local media. “The seven people who died, out of 84 residents, were over the age of 85, and mostly suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Three others are currently in a worrying state, "adds the director of this retirement home, which particularly welcomes people suffering from Alzheimer's.

“It is all the more complicated for these patients who do not understand that they have to wear a mask and stay confined to their room. We cannot lock them up, ”underlines Eric Lacoudre, noting that his establishment is“ fortunate to have masks supplied by the ARS ”(Regional Health Agency).

Several contaminated staff

Several staff members are also contaminated with Covid-19. "The health reserve has intervened and six volunteers will stay with us during the work stoppage of our employees". "We are only at the beginning of the epidemic, we must continue the fight to avoid the deaths," insists the director.

With particularly vulnerable residents, the Ehpad have implemented for several weeks strict "barrier measures" (suppressed visits, temperature measurement, hydroalcoholic gel and masks) to block the entry of the virus. However, many have already deplored the dead.

Thus, twenty residents of a nursing home in Cornimont, in the Vosges, died "in possible connection with the Covid-19", announced on Monday the ARS du Grand Est and the prefecture of the Vosges.
