The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 15th that it will strengthen the crackdown on the "taxi fare" for foreign tourists.

Incheon and Gimpo Airports will be restricted from once a month to more than twice a week on weekdays and at night. In order to enhance the effectiveness of enforcement, we will share driver information suspected of illegal operations with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Korea Tourism Organization.

In addition, based on the crackdown data for the past three years, we plan to establish illegal sales taxi and article database to select illegal sales vulnerable branches and crack down on them by type.

In May and October, when many foreign tourists are visiting, special enforcement is conducted mainly in department stores, sightseeing spots, and accommodation facilities.

In order to strengthen the crackdown, the city of Seoul increased the number of foreign language-speaking civil servants from 11 to 19 last month.

There is also a crackdown on 'mystery shopper' who seizes illegal taxis by pretending to be foreign tourists.

Of the 310 cases of illegal taxi acts against foreign nationals caught last year, the number of unfair toll charges (bull fares) reached to 97, or 301 cases.

The most common case of unfair fares was the charge for extra charge (not the surcharge applied when leaving Seoul).

If you are caught three times by unfair tariffs, you will be dismissed as a taxi driver with a penalty of 600,000 won.

There were 21 cases in which the Seoul Metropolitan Government canceled the taxi drive qualification from March 2017, when it recovered the right to dispose of the taxi from the borough until the end of last year.
