“We consider this step as a manifestation of the White House’s powerlessness to break the will of the people of Cuba, as well as the people of Venezuela,” the website of the Foreign Ministry quotes the head of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Schetinin.

Schetinin noted that the imposition of sanctions against Castro also testifies to the failure of the US attempt to impose its vision of the world in the spirit of the “Monroe Doctrine” on Cuba and Venezuela.

The head of the Latin American department also called sanctions “personal revenge” for moral authority for those countries that uphold their independence and sovereignty.

“This is what a decent society should be ashamed of,” he added.

Earlier, the US put Raul Castro and his family on the sanctions list for involvement in human rights violations.
