Jaume Roures and his producer, Mediapro, leave Atresmedia. The group of Catalan origin, currently with a majority of Chinese capital, leaves that television operator, to which it was linked since the merger of Antena 3 with La Sexta, in which Roures was present.

Mediapro will place a package of up to 7,038,233 participations, as reported by its group, Imagina, to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).

Recently, Mediapro (Imagine) had already got rid of 1% of Atresmedia, which had gone to the BlackRock fund, but due to its low volume this operation had not been communicated to the CNMV.

Roures and its surroundings had stated on different occasions that their participation in Atresmedia was not strategic for their business, specialized in the provision of audiovisual services and in the sale of sports rights, as well as in the production of television content. However, the sale of two packages in just one month seems indicative of a clear intention to leave the group as soon as possible. The value of Atresmedia's share has led to a steady decline in recent years, stock market behavior common to that of other European audiovisual operators in the open, such as Mediaset España.

From two counselors to none

Imagina had had two members on the board of directors of Atresmedia (José Miguel Contreras, one of the founders of La Sexta, and Tatxo Benet, Roures' inseparable couple in their business activities). These positions were linked to the 7% joint with which the members of La Sexta landed in Atresmedia, in 2012, among which Mediapro stood out. In 2015, the Catalan producer already released 3.2% of its shares, a movement that is completed with the acquaintance on Monday.

Today, Mediapro did not even have a presence in the highest representation body of the Antena 3 and La Sexta operator.

Mediapro, as Chinese as Catalan

The Chinese group Orient Hontai Capital is today the majority shareholder of that producer based in Barcelona, thanks to 53.5% of, although Roures and Benet maintain, respectively, 12% of the shares in the producer, In addition to the executive branch in decision making.
