Richard Williams, director, animator and father of Roger Rabbit has died this Friday at age 86 at his home in Bristol (United Kingdom), as announced by his family.
Born in Toronto (Canada), Williams moved to Britain in the 1950s.
Williams won two Oscars for his work as an animation director in the 1988 blockbuster who cheated on Roger Rabbit, creating characters like Roger and Jessica Rabbit.
Williams was also responsible for animation of the title sequences for the 1970s comedy classics The Return of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther attacks again and also participated in Casino Royale.
The Snow White animation film, which Williams saw at the age of five, was the trigger for his fondness for animation. "I always wanted, as a child, to get to Disney. I was a smart kid, so I took my drawings and got in," Williams told the BBC in 2008. "I was there for two days, which you can imagine what it means for a boy ".
After that, he said he was advised to learn to draw correctly and admitted that he "lost all interest in animation" until he was 23, throwing himself into art.
His first film , The Little Island, premiered in 1958 and won a Bafta . He won his first Oscar in 1971 for his animated adaptation of Charles Dickens's Christmas Tale .
During his long career, Williams also wrote an instruction book called The Animator's Survival Kit and was cheering and writing until the day of his death.
