A researcher from the University of Lille was briefly placed in police custody Thursday as part of the investigation into the invasion of an amphitheater in November which had resulted in the cancellation of a conference to be given by François Hollande . Following the complaint filed against X by the University of Lille for intrusion, damage and physical violence, several people have been summoned by the police in recent days.
Refusal to give fingerprints
On Thursday, at least two researchers and a student were summoned to be heard by the police during free hearings. A political scientist, summoned in the morning, was taken into police custody after refusing to submit to a fingerprint sample.
"I refuse to be indexed and criminalized for minimal and derisory facts", she declared at the end of her police custody at the central police station in Lille. "I never imagined that the invasion of an amphitheater could give rise to legal proceedings." Students and teachers, gathered in front of the police station to support their colleague, denounced a complaint "disproportionate to the events".
Abused university official
"The investigation is continuing, in particular by hearing the respondents, after which the prosecution will decide on the follow-up," said a spokesman for the prosecution. "The group of demonstrators who had entered the amphitheater where the conference was to take place was largely made up of people from outside the establishment," said the university. "It should be remembered that in addition to the torn books, at least one university official was the victim of violence."
On November 12, former president François Hollande was prevented from giving a conference at the university by demonstrators denouncing student insecurity. He was not in the amphitheater when a hundred people had invaded it. Some had torn pages from his book. This incident took place four days after the immolation in Lyon of a student. He had posted a letter on social networks denouncing student insecurity, and quoting by name François Hollande.
