Speaking with the report on the bill, deputy Andriy Gerus noted that the purpose of the law is to fulfill Ukraine’s obligations to separate natural gas transportation activities and ensure the activities of the gas transmission system operator, transmission system operator, writes UNIAN.

As Interfax clarifies, this bill is necessary to create conditions for concluding a transit contract with Gazprom.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel stated that this is a “historical moment regarding the protection of Ukrainian interests”.

“For a very long time we could not build a legislative framework that corresponded to European standards so that we would not be blackmailed anymore, and we could ensure long-term gas transportation through Ukraine, the use of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, as well as stable income from these fixed assets,” he said.

On October 28, following consultations with Russia, the European Union and Ukraine on gas, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak noted that Moscow was ready to offer an extension of the existing agreement on gas transit through Ukraine as a fallback.

According to him, if Ukraine is ready to work according to European legislation, Russia is also ready to provide gas transit under this legislation since 2020.
