"A large group of protesters are actively blocking roads and setting fire to various objects, creating a serious threat to the safety of road users," the agency added.

They noted that at present the police "are using minimal forces to disperse the protesters."

Earlier, the head of the administration of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, said that the demonstrators were trying to destroy the city.

According to media reports, during the protests on August 5, 82 people were detained.

Large-scale protests in Hong Kong began in June due to the consideration of amendments to the law on extradition: if approved, they will allow Hong Kong to extradite suspects to jurisdictions with which it does not have an extradition agreement, including Taiwan, Macao and mainland China.
