Just before 2pm on Monday, police were alerted to Uttermarksgatan in Eskilstuna after several people heard gunshots. A 32-year-old man entered the emergency room at Mälar Hospital a while later with gunshot injuries.

Suspected offender on the loose

An hour after the alarm, police announced that a 35-year-old man had been arrested, and he was arrested during the evening. But police do not believe the man fired the shots, and suspect him of assisting in attempted murder on the lower suspicion.

- We do not think he is the shooter but I do not want to go into what role he should have played, says Commissioner Jonas Bergman at the Eskilstuna Police Unit for serious crimes.

Witnesses have told police that a person left the scene on a dark moped in connection with the shooting. One of the police theories is that it is the perpetrator.

- It's a hypothesis we have, says Jonas Bergman.

Shotgun man known by police

How the shot-wounded 32-year-old got to the hospital is still unclear, but clearly he was not allowed to be taken there by ambulance.

The arrested man appears in the police's register, and so does the 32-year-old. Among other things, he has been arrested on suspicion of an attempted murder at the OK / Q8 station on Västergatan in Eskilstuna in October 2018. That investigation is still ongoing.

Jonas Bergman wants to calm people in the immediate area who are worried after Monday's dramatic event.

- This is probably an internal settlement of some kind. Not everyone has come across anything like this.
