Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was slightly injured while driving a motorcycle on Wednesday night at the Malacanang Palace in Manila, the president's residence, officials said Thursday.

"The president was trying to reach his shoes when he fell off his motorcycle," presidential spokesman Salvador Panillo said.

He added that the incident resulted in the injury of the president «minor injury and bruises and minor scratches in the elbow and knee».

Former aide and senator Christopher Bong-joo told reporters Duterte was also injured in his thigh.

He said Duterte was now resting at his official residence.

"The palace confirms that there is nothing to worry about the president's condition," Panello said.
