A map of Japan has appeared on the official website of the 2020 Olympics with points through which the Olympic flame route will pass through the country. At the same time, the four islands of the South Kuril Islands, which Tokyo disputes with Russia, are depicted as part of Japan. Hokkaido Prefecture includes Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai.
Japan claims its rights to these islands, citing a bilateral treaty on trade and borders of 1855. The Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
