Juilan Assange is suspected of a rape in Sweden in 2010. The preliminary investigation was resumed on May 13, 2019 after Julian Assange was arrested in London in April.

During the summer, the Swedish Prosecutor held seven witness hearings, most of which are hearings with the same people who were heard in 2010, the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release. The prosecutor focuses on what she calls the national track. Two of the persons have not been heard before, the prosecutor says.

- We have focused on working with what I call the national track, doing all the investigative measures we can do here in Sweden. And that means in concrete terms that we have held a number of testimonies, ”Deputy Prosecutor Eva-Marie Persson tells Ekot.

European Investigation Order

Now the material will be analyzed. The prosecutor will then decide what will happen next.

“Then the case can be closed or I decide to take further investigative measures. If I then make the assessment that the next step is to hear Julian Assange, I will issue a European investigation order. In that case, I write to the British and apply to have a hearing, "says Eva-Marie Persson in the Prosecutor's Office's press release.

Julian Assange is imprisoned in the UK, convicted of violating British bail rules. The United States has requested that he be extradited there, suspected of violating the country's laws on espionage.

Limitation

The Swedish investigation into suspected rape is prescribed on August 20, 2020, which means that he can no longer be prosecuted. If a prosecution is brought before then, the limitation period is extended - provided you have time to notify Assange before the same date.
