One of Italy's most successful coaches of all time, Carlo Ancelotti, has been deprived of the main responsibility of SSC Napoli, the club announced in an official statement last night. The message came just hours after Napoli secured the Champions League advance after 4-0 against Genk.

Napoli has had a messy season with modest results and player rebellion against the club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Before the game against Genk, Napoli had nine straight without victory and the club writes:

“Naples has decided to take away responsibility as head coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti. The friendship and mutual respect between the club, President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti. "

According to Italian media, former Milan player and coach Gennaro Gattuso will take over Ancelotti's role in Naples.

Carlo Ancelotti is one of Italy's most respected coaches and has won two Europa Cup titles as players and three Champions League titles as coaches.
