Mr. Fujita was born in Fukui City in 1950, dropped out of Waseda University, worked for an airline in France, returned to Japan and started writing, and made his author's debut in 1986.

My wife, Mariko Koike, is the first Naoki Prize-winning couple to live with, and has lived together for many years in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture.

Mr. Fujita has been writing vigorously in recent years, including receiving the Eiji Yoshikawa Literary Prize in the short story "Daisetsu Monogatari" in 2017.
