The venison is considered by many to be a more climate-smart alternative to beef. It contains no residue from antibiotics and is also said to contain more useful substances. Anneli Ekstedt is head of operations for the meal organization in Växjö in special housing. She has experienced a greater demand for meat from game. In Växjö there has been a bet on meat from wild boar.

- It is a good choice from a sustainability perspective, says Anneli Ekstedt.

Must be served once a month

According to the municipality of Växjö, game meat should be cooked once a month and served to the elderly at the special accommodation. Torsten Mörner is chairman of the Swedish Wild Food Academy and he wants more of us to eat more of game meat.

- It is a unique Swedish raw material. We are among the best in the world in producing wild meat. We think that food from game meat has a natural place on our dining tables, says Torsten Mörner.

Positive reactions

Last Sunday was the first day that game meat was served at the current short-term accommodation Evelid in Växjö and the reactions there were positive according to Anneli Ekstedt.

- We have served wild boar stew and I have only been greeted by positive reactions, says Anneli Ekstedt.
