The son of one of the inhabitants of the village of Saint-Myon, in Puy-de-Dôme, assaulted the mayor of 68 years with a knife.

The mayor of Saint-Myon, in the Puy-de-Dome, was attacked Friday by a man armed with a knife and one of his deputies was slightly injured by deflecting the weapon, AFP learned from of the prefecture of Puy-de-Dôme.

Accompanied by two deputies, 68-year-old Jean-Pierre Muselier had visited one of the inhabitants of this village of some 450 inhabitants and "it was his son who tried to attack him with a knife". said the prefect of Puy-de-Dome Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin-Clerc.

The deputy received "a slash"

The mayor, "very shocked", was not injured but his deputy "received a slash in the arm after stopping the gesture" of the attacker, she added. The latter "was arrested by the gendarmes then hospitalized at the request of a third party".

In a statement, Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin-Clerc expressed "all his support and indignation at the aggression of which the mayor was victim in the exercise of its missions in the service of the State and the Republic". This aggression comes a few days after the death of the mayor of Signes, Var, Jean-Mathieu Michel, killed Monday accidentally, according to the first elements of the investigation, while he opposed an illegal deposit of rubble in the nature.
