Emmanuel Macron will chair a ceremony of national homage to Jean Daniel, a great figure in journalism and the left, Friday at 11:30 am in Les Invalides, said the Elysée.
The founder of the weekly Le Nouvel Observateur in 1964 died last Wednesday at the age of 99.
With him, "France loses a conscience, of these men who make history by the sole force of their pen", had reacted the head of state.
Since the beginning of the quinquennium, national tribute ceremonies have been organized in the courtyard of the Hôtel des Invalides for several personalities, such as Simone Veil on July 5, 2017, Jean d'Ormesson on December 8, 2017 and Charles Aznavour on October 5 2018.
Before paying tribute to Jean Daniel, Emmanuel Macron will attend Wednesday afternoon the funeral of former socialist minister Michel Charasse, who died at 78 years old on the night of Thursday to Friday, in Puy-Guillaume (Puy-de-Dôme). He was "one of the most passionate servants of the Republic", said the Head of State, who had given the insignia of officer of the Legion of Honor to this former adviser to François Mitterrand on January 27 at the Elysee.
