Algerian international striker Andy Delort, 27, has extended his contract in Montpellier, the club said Thursday, without specifying the duration.

The original Sétois arrived last summer, loaned by Toulouse with an option to buy. An option lifted at the end of the season by Montpellier where Delort had already signed a four-season contract in June.

Alongside striker Gaëtan Laborde and playmaker Florent Mollet, who have just extended their contract for one season, Delort had the best season of his career, scoring 14 goals and delivering 7 assists.

"This is a great mark of confidence on the part of the MHSC and I am very happy to be part of the continuity with my club of heart", reacted on the site of the club Delort, which won this summer the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria.

Delort joined in January 2017 Toulouse for a transfer of 6 million euros from the Mexican club Tigers de Monterrey, where evolves former international Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Delort, who has already traveled quite a bit (Nîmes, AC Ajaccio, Metz), has distinguished himself in Caen (12 goals), for his first full season in Ligue 1 (2015-16).

Two years earlier, he was named best player in Ligue 2 after a successful season in Tours (24 goals).

Montpellier occupies the 9th place of Ligue 1 after the 3rd day and its success ahead of Lyon (1-0).
