The Rwandan Bureau of Investigation presented Friday (January 17th) two men to the press identified by the authorities as leaders of organizations considered as terrorists by Kigali and operating in eastern DRC.
According to the authorities, Herman Nsengimana is the spokesperson for the FLN, an armed wing of the MRCD, an opposition movement in exile including former Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungu and considered as terrorist by Kigali. Herman Nsengimana is said to have succeeded Callixte Nsabimana, a former spokesperson for the FLN, now in the hands of the Rwandan justice system .
The second man presented Friday by the Rwandan Bureau of Investigation is identified as Theobald Mutarambirwa, former secretary general of the unrecognized opposition party PS-Imberakuri. According to the current president of the party, Bernard Ntaganda, he would have left office in 2010 and would then have been forced into exile.
Today, the two defendants are suspected of terrorism by the Rwandan Bureau of Investigation, which ensures that investigations are under way and that they will be transferred to justice.
According to the authorities, they were arrested by the Congolese army during recent operations against armed groups in eastern Congo. They were reportedly identified among the approximately 300 Rwandan combatants transferred last month to Rwanda by the Congolese army.
After being repatriated to Rwanda, the two defendants were taken care of in the demobilization center of Mutobo, in the north-west of the country, then transferred this week to Kigali.
