The journalist Juan Caño has been elected with 424 votes president of the Association of the Press of Madrid (APM) compared to 363 obtained by the other candidate, José Antonio Vera, in elections held on Tuesday in which 16% participated (809) of the 5,055 associates.

Caño replaces the journalist Victoria Prego, who did not appear for re-election after four years in the presidency of the APM, reports the association in a press release.

As 1st Vice President for Professional Affairs, María Fernández Rey has been elected and revalidated her position as 2nd Vice President for Health and Assistance Affairs and as 3rd Vice President for Economic Affairs Javier Olave Lusarreta and Miguel Ángel Noceda Llano, respectively.

The APM also informs that Monica Tourón Torrado has been elected as Secretary General and Francisco Javier Galán Gamero as Deputy Secretary ; while the library archivist is José Francisco Serrano Oceja.

The rest of the new Board of Directors is composed of the members: Luis Ayllón Alonso, Rosa Martín Villacastín, Amancio Fernández Rodríguez, Carmen Enríquez Medina, Nemesio Rodríguez López, Karmentxu Marín López, María Llapart Varona, Cristina de Alzaga Fraguas, Ana García Lozano, Natalia Escalada Goicoechea, Maite Antona López, Isabel Acosta Villalobos, Andrés Rodríguez, Lucía González González, Luis Fermín Moreno Álvarez and Margie Igoa González.

Voting was held between nine o'clock in the morning and nine o'clock at night during uninterrupted hours.

Four years ago, 19.15% of the 7,383 associates participated, that is, 1,414 members voted.

Juan Caño, who has been a delegate of the EFE Agency in London and Washington and director or founder of more than a dozen magazines, presented himself for the second time to the Presidency of the association and did so with a candidacy made up of 13 women and 10 men

His opponent, José Antonio Vera, has been president of the EFE Agency and director of the newspaper La Razón, and was presenting for the first time to chair the APM.
