- Kardonbanan is a prerequisite for the East Link to pass Norrköping at all. The east link will cut off the current industrial tracks in central Norrköping, and that function must be maintained, says the Swedish Transport Administration's project manager Youssef Hassib.

Goods to the harbor and Händelö

The Kardonbanan - what is called the first stage of the Ostlänk, is the new track from Åby for goods to the new freight yard in Malmölandet, and further to Händelö and the port of Norrköping.

- We have noted some delays in our ground work but our assessment is that it will not affect the end time when we take the Kardonbanan into operation on week 44 next year, says Youssef Hassib.

Current debate on high-speed rail

The plans for a Swedish high-speed railway have been under intense debate lately. The OAG wants the government to stop the project and how it affects the Ostlänk is not yet fully stated.

- I cannot comment on this, but advise you to contact one of the colleagues who deals with these issues, says Youssef Hassib, the Swedish Transport Administration's project manager for the cardboard track.
