Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported on Saturday that Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak submitted to the Amir a letter of apology for his appointment as prime minister shortly after he was asked to form the next government.

The agency said that Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will address citizens this evening.

The emir of Kuwait issued an Emiri order on Monday to exempt the defense ministers Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah from the functions of urgent discharge in their ministries after accepting the resignation of the government last week.

The emir also reappointed Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah as prime minister and asked him to form a new government, succeeding his former government, before Mubarak later apologized.

The Emir of Kuwait instructed Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to act urgently on the affairs of the Ministry of Defense.

This is the seventh government headed by Jaber al-Sabah, and was formed in December 2017. Jaber al-Sabah first formed the government in November 2011.

Recent weeks have seen tensions between the government and parliament after questioning Public Works Minister Janan Boushahri and Interior Minister Khalid al-Jarrah al-Sabah.

Boushahri, who is also the secretary of state for housing affairs, announced her resignation to avoid a vote of confidence after a stormy questioning.

Ten deputies filed a no-confidence motion against the interior minister, who is also a deputy prime minister. A vote was to be taken but the government's resignation prevented it.
