156 people were arrested on 2 November in Perugia, the famous university town of the Umbria region (central Italy), and in other Italian and foreign cities.
This latest operation is the result of a long investigation into international drug trafficking, led by the Perugia Prosecutor's Office. It has seized 300 kg of drugs for an estimated value of more than 50 million euros.
It is an absolutely new organization of international drug traffickers that has been dismantled, thanks to the collaboration between the Italian police and the European judicial cooperation agency.
The investigation began more than six years ago with the spinning of a man from Tanzania who was managing a vast network of heroin traffickers in northern Poland, including Perugia.
According to the prosecutor's office of this university city, dozens of African nationals, from Tanzania but also from Burundi, were part of this organization. Persons apparently unsuspected, who exercised outside their criminal activity very diverse trades: hairdresser, barber, entrepreneur, actor, trader ...
The new president of the Umbria region Donatella Tesei, a member of Matteo Salvini's League, immediately praised the work done by the police and the investigators.
