“Iran did not give any guarantees that the Grace 1 tanker would not go to Syria,” the representative of the TASS Iranian Foreign Ministry quotes.
Earlier, the British Foreign Ministry demanded that Iran fulfill the promise that the Grace 1 tanker, liberated by Gibraltar, would not proceed to Syria.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in turn, reiterated Tehran’s position on the illegality of the detention of Grace 1 by Gibraltar.
The Iranian tanker Grace 1 was detained off the coast of Gibraltar on July 4 by members of the Royal Marines of Great Britain because the ship allegedly delivered oil to Syria in violation of sanctions.
On August 15, Gibraltar decided to free the tanker.
