September 11, 2019Two women with dual Australian and British citizenship and an Australian citizen are arrested in Iran, according to the Australian government, according to international media reports. Their names were not disclosed but, according to the Times of London, two women with dual British and Australian citizenship, a blogger and a university professor would be detained. According to Australian media, the blogger's fellow of Australian nationality was also arrested.

The Times links the arrests to an escalation of tension between London and Tehran, pointing out that these would be the first cases of arrest of people with dual citizenship, one of which is not the Iranian one. The two women, an Anglo-Australian blogger who was traveling in Asia with her Australian companion and an academic from the University of Cambridge who was teaching at an Australian university, also with dual citizenship, would have been arrested separately, in several circumstances. According to the Times, the same Anglo-Iranian project manager, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, is detained in Evin prison in Tehran, the same where she has been locked up since 2016 with accusations of espionage.
