Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed to appoint the deputy head of the department, Lieutenant General of Police Igor Krasnov, to the post of Prosecutor General. Yuri Chaika relieved of his post and will move to another job. This is stated on the website of the Kremlin press service.

“Vladimir Putin submitted to the Council of the Federation the candidacy of Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Igor Krasnov for the post of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. Yuri Chaika was relieved of his post in connection with the transfer to another job, ”the report said.

According to the Russian Constitution, the prosecutor general and his deputies appoint and dismiss the Federation Council on the proposal of the president.

The upper house will consider the appointment of Krasnov to the post of prosecutor general on Wednesday, January 22, said Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko. January 21, the president’s request will be considered by specialized committees.

“If approved, the appointment of the attorney general will be submitted to the next meeting of the Federation Council, January 22,” she said.
