12 December 2019In Italy "the circulation of influenza viruses begins to intensify" and the beginning of the epidemic period is approaching. According to the Influnet bulletin, by the Infectious Diseases Department of the Higher Institute of Health, the infections are approaching the first million. In fact, 887,000 people have already been exceeded since the beginning of the season, especially children, according to data from last week. In Piedmont, Lombardy, the autonomous province of Trento, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo and Sicily the highest values.
In the past week, there have been 177,000 infections, bringing the number of people in bed to 887,000 since the beginning of the season, or very close to one million cases. According to the Integrated Influenza Surveillance System, in the week from 2 to 8 December 2019 the total incidence was equal to 2.88 cases per thousand assisted and to be affected were mainly children. In the 0-4 age group, in fact, the incidence is equal to 6.64 cases per thousand assisted, double compared to adults.
