- It looks like there will be about 12,000 police-reported wildlife accidents this year, compared to 11,100 last year, says Boris Karlqvist, information officer at the Älgskadefondsföreningen.

When the accident is over, it is important to have three things in mind; stay, warn and alert, says Boris Karlqvist. Turn on the car's warning lights, put out a warning triangle and contact 112. In addition, make sure to mark the accident site so that the hunters know where to start their search if the animal is damaged.

Perhaps the most important advice of all:

- Do not be in such a hurry. Better to arrive a little later than planned and arrive whole, both for you and for the sake of animals, says Boris Karlqvist.
