Two days after the end of the strike of the Portuguese fuel carriers, a new mobilization has begun in Portugal: that of the Ryanair crew, whose break will last until August 25.

The strike, called by the National Union of Civil Aviation Crews (SNPVAC, according to its acronym in Portuguese), intends to denounce "the breach of the rules imposed by Portuguese legislation, especially as regards the subsidy payment of holidays" , as well as the hiring as fixed of the crew hired through second companies.

Fearing the impact that the mobilization could have on the tourism sector -damaged by the image of long lines in 'dry' gas stations during the strike of the fuel carriers-, the Government of António Costa has moved preventively and made the unusual decision of decree minimum services that oblige Ryanair crew members to carry out flights of key routes.

Specifically, flights between the continent and the Azores and Madeira are guaranteed , as well as those that link to Lisbon with Berlin, Paris and London, and Porto with Cologne.

The SNPVAC affirms that the "abusive" decree conditions the rights of the crew, an argument shared by several workers' organizations that question the way in which the socialist government has tried to limit the impact of recent strikes on Portuguese lands.

The Executive was accused of being on the side of the employer last week, when he deactivated the stop of the transporters decreeing the civil requisition of the strikers and mobilizing the Army to replenish the Portuguese gas stations.

In relation to the Ryanair strike, the Government justifies the minimum services decreed by arguing that passenger agglomerations at airports put everyone's safety at risk , and stresses that it is in the national interest to ensure that Portugal remains a "destination of choice for European tourists.
