A shootout killed at least two people Wednesday (October 9th) in Halle, eastern Germany, and the perpetrators fled, according to the latest information released by the German police.

On his Twitter account, the police in Halle said that the shooters have escaped by car and calls the population to stay at home or to take shelter.

According to the daily Bild, shots were fired in front of a synagogue in the Paulus district. The newspaper adds on its website that a grenade was thrown at a Jewish cemetery in the city.

Halle, located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, lies about thirty kilometers north-west of Leipzig.
