The Chinese telecommunications giant is at the forefront of 5G technology, the fifth generation of mobile networks. Many countries could use Huawei to develop this technology, which the United States feared. This is also feared by NATO, an organization of military cooperation between European and North American countries, whose secretary general expressed Thursday morning 14 March.

The United States, Australia, Japan or Britain have already announced that Huawei would not deploy their 5G network because of the close ties that the company would have with the Chinese government, and the risk of espionage that Huawei could represent.

In front of the House Defense Committee in the United States, US General Curtis Scaparrotti, who commands NATO's allied forces in Europe, pointed to " the incredible data extraction capacity " associated with the " band ". passing 5G ".

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wants to be more diplomatic. At a press conference devoted to NATO's annual report, he nevertheless expresses the same concern. " This question is partly commercial and economic, but it can also have security implications. We will conduct consultations, we will assess the issue, and see how NATO can address this challenge, related to investments in 5G infrastructure. "

The Chinese company Huawei has always denied the espionage charges against him.
