Moderates

How do you see today's gasoline price?

In order to create long-term acceptance for climate policy, it must take into account that living conditions look different around the country. It is unfair that those who depend on their car every day to get together everyday should bear a disproportionate share of the responsibility for the changeover. Sweden has one of Europe's highest gasoline and diesel prices and therefore we want to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel by SEK 1 / liter.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

The moderates want the state to support the expansion of charging infrastructure for passenger cars and electric roads for heavier traffic along Sweden's roads. We want to increase the requirement for mandatory involvement of renewable fuels in fossil fuels. In the future, more cars and heavy transport will be electrified - and then we need even more electricity. Therefore, the Moderates also want to ensure that both nuclear power and renewable energy sources can continue to produce climate-smart electricity without carbon dioxide emissions.

When should such a shift occur?

By 2045, Sweden will have net zero emissions and by 2030 emissions from road transport will be reduced by 70 percent. The transition is already taking place and the Moderates want to speed it up. Therefore, we are investing in extensive electrification of road transport with expanded charging infrastructure and electric roads. We want to continue existing nuclear power reactors and invest in research and development of fourth generation nuclear power, as well as renewable energy, to meet the increased demand for fossil-free electricity.

The Left

How do you see today's gasoline price?

This is highly dependent on several factors, weak krona and high commodity prices and high taxation. The price of fossil fuels must be high to reduce the climate impact, but the petrol tax also hits hard on low-income people and rural living. Therefore, these groups need to be compensated to a greater extent and give people access to sustainable alternatives.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

It is necessary that travel and transport that are more sustainable are accessible and attractive for people and companies at a price. In our budget proposal from the Left Party we therefore propose, among other things, government investments for cheaper and better public transport, government premiums for car owners who convert the car to climate-friendly operation, and significantly increased investments in more charging stations for electric cars and production of biogas. We want to introduce a ban on the sale of new cars fueled with gasoline or diesel in 2025.

When should such a shift occur?

The transition must now take place and we believe that Sweden should have the goal of having zero emissions by 2040. Our transport sector should be fossil-free by 2030.

Green Party

How do you see today's gasoline price?

The price of fossil gasoline and diesel needs to increase if we are serious about tackling the climate threat. Climate emissions must be reduced very quickly. That is why we should invest hard in developing what is better for the climate: trains, electric vehicles and biofuels. And get better at smart solutions to avoid unnecessary travel. What is bad for the climate must also be more expensive. People who have long distances and poor public transport often now have no alternative but to drive on fossil gasoline or diesel. They will receive support, for example, through changed travel deductions and tax cuts for rural residents. It is more effective than lowering the gasoline tax for everyone.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

The Swedish Parliament has decided that we will reduce transport emissions by 70 per cent by the year 2030 and all of Sweden will reach zero by 2045. We will build a society that does not harm our children's future. Price often controls how we behave. When it becomes cheaper for a company to transport goods by train instead of by truck, they will use the train. Therefore, the policy should 1) stop all subsidies for fossil energy, 2) stop all public investment in fossil energy, and 3) invest for the climate: invest in the railways and alternative fuels, and support the conversion of agriculture and industry to fossil-free.

When should such a shift occur?

We want the last drop of fossil to be sold in Sweden in 2030. The shift has already begun and must not stop. With the Environment Party in government, requirements have increased for the incorporation of renewable in all gasoline and diesel sold in Sweden. We have introduced support for municipalities that invest in charging poles and bonuses for those who choose to buy a car with low emissions. But much more needs to be done.

The Social Democrats

How do you see today's gasoline price?

The large fluctuations in fuel prices are largely explained by the oil price. We therefore need to become less dependent on what is happening in the outside world. The transition from fossil fuels increases our self-determination and is good for the climate. Already today, more than 20 percent of the fuel that is refueled in Sweden is biofuels. This means less climate impact and less dependence on oil prices. We propose in the Budget Bill for 2020 that fuel taxes be reduced. The proposal means that the higher GDP index will not break through 2020, but the tax on pump will only be adjusted in accordance with the general price trend

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

We have made major changes before, for example we have phased out the villa oil in favor of other ways to heat our houses. Now we need to do the same with fossil fuels. To make that shift there are several tools. One such is the bonus malus, which was introduced in 2018. Bonus for vehicles with low carbon dioxide emissions and higher taxes for those with high emissions. Another tool is the reduction obligation, which places demands on the involvement of biofuels in what we think. At the turn of the year 2020, the level of ambition will increase and the involvement of biofuels will increase. In addition, the government has introduced a premium for electric buses, and an eco bonus for transferring goods to shipping.

When should such a shift occur?

Successively. Sweden will have a leading and driving role for the implementation of both the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030. Under the previous bourgeois government was put the bill “A coherent Swedish climate and energy policy” (prop. 2008/09: 162) where the long-term priority was that Sweden 2030 should have a vehicle fleet that is independent of fossil fuels and that by 2050 Sweden should have a sustainable and resource efficient energy supply without net emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The priority of a fossil-independent vehicle fleet should be seen as a step on the road towards the vision for 2050. We intend to implement and complete this.

Liberals

How do you see today's gasoline price?

Gasoline prices are high. At the same time, with the climate threat we are facing, it is necessary that we change from fossil-based fuels to fossil-free.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

Electrification of transport is crucial to reducing Sweden's carbon dioxide emissions. The Liberals have taken the initiative of an electrification commission with the task of accelerating the conversion of heavy transport from fossil-based fuels to electricity

When should such a shift occur?

The changeover takes place gradually. The goal is a fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030.

The Center Party

How do you see today's gasoline price?

The transport sector must change and emissions must decrease. At the same time, it is important that it is not more difficult to live and work in the countryside where people are totally dependent on the car in their everyday lives. It is therefore important to remember that as the price has gone up, the cars have also become more efficient. It is therefore no more expensive to drive a car today than it was ten years ago.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

In the autumn budget, the Center Party presented a billion investment in green transport in the upcoming budget, including investments in charging infrastructure and meeting the high demand for climate-smart cars. We also want to give a bigger green car bonus to those who buy the best green cars and to mix more renewable in the ordinary fuel. We have received both of these parts in the January agreement, which will be discussed in the coming year.

When should such a shift occur?

Such a shift has already begun, but things are going too slowly. Emissions from road transport increased last year. We are still far behind, for example, Norway, where almost half of all new cars are electric cars, compared to five percent in Sweden, or just over a tenth if you add the charging hybrids. More needs to be done to reach the goal of reducing emissions in the transport sector to 70% by 2030 compared with 2010. It is both good for the climate and good for Sweden when we can produce renewable fuels from Swedish forest or use renewable electricity instead of oil from Russia. .

The Christian Democrats

How do you see today's gasoline price?

It is very loud at the moment. It is not reasonable to raise gasoline further. Instead, the Christian Democrats want to investigate a new model for road traffic taxation, where we pay when we drive the car rather than when we refuel the car. Then it may be more expensive, for example, to drive in Stockholm's inner city in the middle of rush hour traffic than it is to drive in the inland of Norrland. This requires that the issues of integrity can be resolved.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

By accelerating the development and dissemination of fossil-free technology for energy production, transportation and other activities that today use fossil fuels. The Christian Democrats therefore propose investments in biofuels, hydrogen, truck charging stations, biojet for aviation and climate-friendly research, as well as capture and storage of carbon dioxide. We also want to speed up the testing process for strategic climate projects so that the total testing process becomes a maximum of 12 months.

When should such a shift occur?

The shift from fossil dependency to fossil freedom is in full swing. Since 1990, Swedish greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by about 19 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, of which almost 13 million tonnes occurred during the eight years of the Alliance government. In recent years, however, Swedish emissions have leveled off. When we get a new government, the transition can take off again by focusing on technology change rather than symbolic politics.

Sweden Democrats

How do you see today's gasoline price?

We believe that today's gasoline prices are far too high and hamper jobs, growth and Swedish countryside.

How can politics enable a shift to fossil-free fuels?

The key is electrification of the vehicle fleet. However, this does not happen overnight, but requires continued technological development. The state should focus on offering reliable electricity and enabling continued expansion of charging infrastructure.

When should such a shift occur?

It is difficult to say when it depends on technological development. There are many indications that the red-green and former Alliance parties' goal of having a fossil-free vehicle fleet in 2030 is unrealistic without causing too much cost to Swedish countryside and society at large.
