The climate emergency is not "a future problem, it is something that is already affecting us ," said the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg , in her first intervention in the framework of the Climate Change Summit (COP25) held in Madrid.

In a debate dedicated to young people and together with several activists from different areas of the world, the young Swedish woman said that "people are suffering" and the inclement weather and, therefore, cannot be expected.

Thunberg, which has caused a great media commotion at this Summit , gave the floor to the young activists invited to the event since, he said, "their stories must be heard" in a context like this "where we are the subject of so much media attention" .

At another time during her intervention, the activist referred to the indigenous peoples to whom, she said, it is "very important that we listen to them" .

Indigenous peoples "are suffering and are the most affected by violence, those who are most exposed to" the consequences of climate change, since they have to be in balance with nature. "

"That is why we have to help them, because they are very valuable because of their knowledge " of nature, "something that can be useful to us" to fight against climate change, he stressed.

This is the first act of the Swedish activist at this Summit in which this Monday will also participate in a debate organized by UNICEF on children and youth and in which she will be accompanied by the executive director of that agency, the Chilean Michelle Bachelet .
