In the Golden Ball, presented by France Football magazine for the best player in the world, the Arabs were represented by Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's top scorer and Algerian Manchester City winger Riad Mehrez.

Mahrez came in tenth place out of thirty players selected to compete for the award, while Salah came in fifth place.

The two players, along with Senegalese star Sadio Mani, who is Salah's teammate who finished fourth on the list, will compete on the 7th of next month for the African Player of the Year award, which Salah has won in the last two seasons, while he was crowned by Mehrez in 2016.
