“The report on dismissal from service in the penal system from the deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia V. Maksimenko was not received by the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service,” the TASS statement quoted.

Earlier, human rights activist, a former member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission, Ivan Melnikov, said that Maksimenko wrote a letter of resignation of his own free will.

According to him, the management has not yet made a decision.

Maksimenko was appointed deputy head of the FSIN in April 2016. He is an honorary employee of the penal system.
