Unemployment continues to fall in France. It fell 0.2% in the second quarter to 8.5 in mainland France and the overseas departments, excluding Mayotte. This is its lowest level since 2008.
This fall in unemployment concerns all age groups and more particularly young people where the decline is the largest: -0.6% point. Unemployment is also falling among seniors, which has not always been the case in recent months , -0.2 points for the over-50s and 25-49s.
Another encouraging sign is the full-time employment rate, while the part-time rate is decreasing. France, excluding Mayotte, now has 2.525 million unemployed. That's 300,000 less since the beginning of the five-year period, welcomed Labor Minister Muriel Pénicaud.
But if unemployment continues its slow decline since mid-2015 it is also thanks to the labor market reforms initiated under François Hollande and intensified since the arrival of Emmanuel Macron: the CICE, the pact of responsibility , the laws El- Khomri , reforms of apprenticeship and vocational training as well as ordinances reforming the Labor Code.
The goal of the President of the Republic to reach the threshold of 7% of unemployment before the end of his quinquennium seems today attainable if the decline continues at the same pace.
